Where to Find Wholesale Petroleum Suppliers

Wholesale petroleum supply is a relationship market with public infrastructure behind it. Once you know where terminals are and who lifts from them, finding suppliers is straightforward.

This guide lists the practical sources for locating wholesale suppliers of gasoline, diesel, DEF, and lubricants — and how to qualify what you find.

Start at the Terminal

Product moves through pipeline and marine terminals. Identify the terminals serving your area, then ask the terminal operator or check public rack postings to learn which suppliers hold positions there. Buying from a supplier that lifts locally lowers your freight.

Rack price reporting services publish daily postings by terminal and supplier, which also helps you sanity-check quotes.

Association Directories

State petroleum marketer associations and the national marketers and convenience store organizations maintain member directories of distributors, transporters, and equipment vendors by region. These are the most reliable public lists of licensed suppliers.

State revenue departments also publish licensed motor fuel distributor lists, which lets you verify that a supplier is in good standing.

Brand and Refiner Channels

If you want branded product, contact the oil company's branded wholesaler or distributor department directly; they will route you to authorized distributors covering your territory. For lubricants, refiner distributor locators identify authorized regional resellers.

For unbranded product, independent jobbers and regional wholesalers are the main channel, along with spot brokers for larger volumes.

Qualify Before You Commit

Verify licensing and bonding, terminal access diversity, delivery capacity, insurance, and references from accounts of your size. Then compare on index plus differential rather than delivered price on a single day.
